TRAVELLING TO AUSTRALIA ON ASSIGNMENT
Visas/Electronic Travel Authorities (ETA)
A valid passport or similar acceptable travel document is required of all people wishing to travel to and enter Australia. Everyone, except holders of Australian and New Zealand passports, require a visa or ETA (Electronic Travel Authority) to enter Australia.
All working journalists and crew traveling to Australia on United States passports, for periods up to three months, need a Business Electronic Travel Authority. ETAs are usually issued by your travel agent or airline at the time that they make your bookings. For further information about ETAs, or to check which other nationalities are eligible, please visit the web site of the Australian Embassy in Washington.
The following people need to check with the Immigration Office at the Australian Embassy in Washington on ph 202 797-3145 or fax 212 797-3100 regarding appropriate visas requirements:
Media intending to be based in Australia for an extended period of time, Media producing material specifically for the Australian market,
Models, actors or entertainers.
Outside the United States contact the Department of Immigration & Multicultural Affairs for further information and to locate your nearest Australian Immigration Office.

Australian Consulate General, New York does not issue visas or ETAs. Film and Photographic Equipment
If you are taking photographic, film or other equipment you will need to arrange a Carnet prior to departing for Australia. North American Film and Media organizations can contact the Corporation for International Business or call 1-800 ATA-2900.
